CgMs provided an external consents officer to National Grid, whose role it was to secure all the necessary consents for a package of electricity infrastructure projects in the Thames Estuary area. These included :
  • Uprating existing overhead lines from 275kV to 400kV between Barking and West Thurrock, Tilbury and Lakeside, and West Thurrock and Littlebrook;
  • Securing a new 400kV connection at Lakeside, involving a new section of overhead line and two sealing end compounds;
  • Modifying line entries at West Thurrock substation; and
  • Extensions and modified overhead line entries at Barking substation
The role involved :
  • Managing the consents process under both planning legislation and s37 of the Electricity Act;
  • Procuring and managing several teams of environmental consultants
  • Liaison with the project team;
  • Negotiation with statutory bodies, including the local planning authorities, Natural England and the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform
