The Edinburgh office provides advice relating to archaeology and heritage in the planning process. The team can identify potential risks and costs during feasibility studies. They have extensive experience of supporting applications with assessments that address both physical and setting impacts. Once a development has gained approval they effectively manage the satisfaction of conditions relating to archaeological fieldwork.

Our retail and leisure team undertake on behalf of our retail and leisure clients the following core planning services:

  • Undertaking a planning assessment of the prospects of obtaining planning permission for the sought retail and leisure use(s).
  • Advising on the planning strategy to maximise the prospects of obtaining the sought planning permission.
  • Undertaking a quantitative and qualitative "need", "impact" and "sequential test assessment" for retail, leisure and other "town centre uses" that are proposed outside the town centre.
  • Varying planning conditions enabling the occupation of a unit for a specific operator.
  • Negotiating planning permission for corporate signage and shop frontages.
  • Negotiating all of planning applications for new development, including the associated planning agreements.
  • Acting as the expert witness at planning appeal .
