Property Week Live >>

The proposed reform of the English planning system is perhaps one of the key policy divisions between the three main English political parties. For example, the Conservative Party's proposed "open source" localism agenda would result, if they are elected, in the abolition of the Regional Development Agencies (and therefore the regional housing targets) and existing or draft development plans are to be replaced with new local neighbourhood plans - based on the local community's own assessment of their future needs.

Both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats also propose to abolish the recently established Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) and propose third party right of appeal and also to stop the practice of "garden grabbing."

The Conservatives also propose to abolish the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to be replaced by tariffs - of which a portion can be kept by the neighbourhood, whilst Local Authorities can keep pound for pound Council tax receipts from the development of new homes.

These and other differences between the political parties and their proposed changes to the planning system and commitment to the green agenda, will all be addressed in the webinar where you can also put your own questions to John Healey or Bob Neill.
