PLANNING
New Forest
In May 2004 CgMs achieved outline planning permission for redevelopment of a car dealership in Hythe, Hampshire to provide 28 residential apartments. The local planning authority had opposed the development on loss of employment grounds.
This project involved detailed analysis of the availability of employment land within the wider locality and presentation of the planning case at Public Inquiry.

Tower West, Liverpool
As part of its ongoing role as consultant to the Beetham Organization, CgMs is pleased to announce that it has recently carried out an appraisal on the impact of Tower West, a proposed 120m high tower situated close to the recently approved Beetham Tower, which is currently nearing completion, on the city’s historic environment. Both towers are located in the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site and as such it is necessary to demonstrate that Tower West will not have an adverse impact on the internationally famous waterfront or the setting of the Liverpool’s ‘Three Graces’, the Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the former Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Offices on Pier Head.
As part of this process CgMs is carrying out a Historic Environment Impact Assessment, concentrating on the visual effects of the proposal, and Archaeological Desk-Based Study to assess the below ground potential.
CgMs are delighted to be working with Beetham again having undertaken the archaeological and historic building work for the first Beetham Tower in Liverpool and managed the archaeological excavation of Roman remains in advance of the Beetham Tower in Deansgate, Manchester.

ARCHAEOLOGY
Kingsborough Manor, Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey
The unexpected remains of a Neolithic causewayed enclosure have been revealed during a recent excavation being project managed by CgMs on behalf of Jones Homes (Southern). Causewayed enclosures are one of the oldest, rarest and mysterious ancient monuments in the country of which only 69 were previously known or suspected in the UK. This particular discovery is even more unusual in that it forms one of a pair of causewayed enclosures, the first one of which was found during an excavation ahead of an earlier phase of the development. Following negotiations with Kent County Council, CgMs and Jones Homes have agreed a mitigation strategy that ensures that this important monument is thoroughly investigated but will be largely preserved in-situ in open space within the development.
